C-Store Chain Erecting Modular Locales
Family Express plans several such units in Indiana

Family Express (Valparaiso, Ind.) announced that its first modularized prototype is being built in Ligonier, Ind. The c-store chain said that locale is the inaugural step in executing $100 million in development of new-to-the-industry stores, starting this spring throughout Indiana, though it offered no further specifics on that plan.
The new construction method allows the delivery approximately 7200 square feet masonry buildings with a full kitchen and car wash within a matter of days, the company.
In its coverage of the news, C-Store Dive noted that Family Express joins such retailers as Wawa and Murphy USA in testing out modular construction, in which the building is mostly crafted off-site, then assembled on the location.

“Our objective,” said Family Express President and CEO Gus Olympidis, “is to facilitate the rapid development of our company and to remedy, to the extent possible, weather-related delays that are typical in the upper Midwest.”

Family Express has a vertically integrated business model for its network of 80-plus stores (all in Indiana) and their in-house eateries, including central distribution, a central bakery and such in-house brands as JavaWave Coffees, FE milk, waters and ice.
