Cava (Washington, D.C.) has opened its first restaurant in Michigan, in the western Detroit suburb of Canton. The 3850-square-foot location is the first of several the chain plans for the state. (It did not provide specifics on future locales.)

“We’re thrilled to join the Southeast Michigan community and introduce more guests to the bold, vibrant flavors of the Mediterranean,” said Gino Carlin, the brand’s Regional Leader.

Founded in 2006, its Michigan debut brings the chain’s total fleet to 410 locations in 28 states and the District of Columbia. Its longer-range goal is to have 1000 restaurants by 2032.

Earlier this year, the brand got a boost from Fast Companywhich put Cava in 13th place on its list of the world’s 50 most innovative companies – the only restaurant to be so honored. “While other restaurants install in-store ordering kiosks, the Mediterranean fast-casual chain prioritizes face-to-face interaction,” the magazine noted in its article on the company. Fast Company also lauded Cava for its “Project Soul” initiative, which included updating the interiors of its existing restaurants with cushioned seating, a warmer color palette and added greenery.
