Printemps (Paris) has opened its first U.S. store, in New York’s historic One Wall Street tower, report a variety of news sources, including CNBC. The two level-store is in the base of the Financial District skyscraper, and has 54,365 square feet of space along with a façade measuring 346 linear feet facing Broadway.
A highlight of the store’s insides is the Red Room, one of only 50 interior landmarks in New York. That high-ceilinged, 1930s-era space, which served as the reception area/main lobby for a bank once based in the building, now houses a sizable shoe display area and an elegant bar.
Founded in 1865, Printemps also has 20 department stores in France. Printemps characterizes the new store as the next chapter of its brand transformation that is of “a different scale, bringing a local approach and focusing on increased omnichannel and seamless experiences.”
The store’s opening comes amidst a softening in luxury sales around the globe, CNBC notes. Still, Brian Ehrig, a partner in consulting firm Kearney’s consumer practice, told the news service the U.S. remains an attractive market for luxury brands because of consumers’ resilience.
