Walmart (Bentonville, Ark.) is reportedly planning to lay off 1458 employees at one of its fulfillment facilities in Fulton County. According to a filing with Georgia’s department of labor and Retail Dive, the layoffs will take place by Dec. 2, 2022.

It’s unclear whether Walmart is rethinking any of its e-commerce strategies, but some analysts say it should, reports Retail Dive.

Scott Pope, a Walmart spokesperson, said in a statement, “We’re converting the fulfillment center on Fulton Parkway to support our growing WFS (Walmart Fulfillment Services) business. As part of the conversion, the facility’s infrastructure, operational resources, processes, staffing requirements and equipment are being adjusted to meet the building’s needs.”

Amazon has also recently began to scale back some of its fulfillment centers and cancel facilities that were planned to open.
