Apple Adds Another Store in Seoul

Apple (Cupertino, Calif.) has opened its fifth store in Seoul, South Korea, in the city’s famed Gangnam District. The store represents Apple’s ongoing moves to beef up its presence in a market where almost 80 percent of smartphones sold are by homegrown brand Samsung, The Korea Herald reports.

The latest Apple store’s design includes double-height façade with a gradient frit and mirrored coating treatment that blurs the transition from top to bottom and shifts in appearance during different times of day or season, the company said in a statement.

Apple Gangnam is also designed with materials sourced from the region, including the tables, wood feature wall, logo, façade glass, stone walls and flooring. As with all other Apple facilities, Apple Gangnam runs on 100 percent renewable energy and is carbon neutral.

“We are so excited to open Apple Gangnam and share the best of Apple with even more people in Seoul,” said Deirdre O’Brien, Apple’s Senior VP of Retail.

The store is the latest step in Apple’s expansion in the country, which began in 2018 and has grown to include four others in Seoul and the Apple Developer Academy and Apple Manufacturing R&D Accelerator in Pohang.
