Dollar General to Accept Supplemental Health Benefits as Payment

After opening its 20,000th store earlier this week, Dollar General (Goodlettsville, TN) announced it will now accept supplemental health benefits as a payment method for food, OTC medicines and other wellness items at all of its stores.

“We believe our partnership to expand access to supplemental and value-added benefits demonstrates our focus to keep our customers at the center of all we do and further establish Dollar General as a health destination,” Albert Wu, Dollar General’s Chief Medical Officer, said in a statement.

The decision comes as the discount chain expands into the grocery and wellness markets. In February, Dollar General announced it will start carrying fresh produce at 5,000 stores.
