Supreme Court to proceed with Starbucks-union case

The US Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear a case involving Starbucks (Seattle) firing pro-union workers. The U.S. National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) determined seven employees at one of Starbucks’ locations in Memphis, Tenn. were fired in 2022 for supporting unionization. In August 2023, a U.S appeals court rejected the coffee chain’s appeal challenge and required the company to rehire those employees.

The Memphis shop is one of hundreds of Starbucks locations to support worker unionization and more than 700 complaints have been filed with the NLRB accusing the coffee chain of unlawful labor practices.
