Texas Jewelers Focus on the Future with 118th Annual Convention

(PRESS RELEASE) The Texas Jewelers Association is fast approaching its 118th annual convention, which will be in Houston, TX, for the first time. The three-day event includes two days of educational speakers, including Brad Huisken of IAS Training Management, award-winning gemstone cutter and jeweler Dalan Hargrave, cyber and store security expert Greg “Dutch” Holland, HMH Consulting, and more. There will be a limited number of vendors.

There will be four categories in a professional jewelry design competition and two student jewelry categories with cash prizes. The student contest is sponsored by J. Patrick Diamonds. A CAD category is sponsored by B9Creations. Awards will be presented at the dinner gala with live music on Saturday night.

“Focus on the Future” The three day event is scheduled Oct. 7-9 at the Crown Plaza Galleria. On the final day, members will visit the Houston Museum of Natural Science, where gemstone carver Patrick Dreher has items on display, along with Fabergé, and the Lester and Sue Smith Gem Vault. The quality of the museum’s specimen collection has been compared to that of the Smithsonian Institution’s collection.

“These are exciting times as the jewelry industry has made great strides in the past few years with technology and social media” says Amber Gustafson, president of the Texas Jewelers Association. “We are growing as an association and want to continue encouraging new business to grow with us and look forward to this great event.”
