e3display, OUTFORM Inc., and Pratt Display Named 2018 OMA Display of the Year Winners




Shop! presented OMA awards for Display of the Year and announced the winners for the Budget and Creative awards during last night’s Shop! Awards ceremony at GlobalShop. In its 60th year, the 2018 competition drew the highest number of global entries. A total of 183 winning displays were recognized with Gold, Silver or Bronze awards.

The competition consisted of 23 categories, each with three subcategories. Award-winning displays received the highest scores in design, innovation, and the proven ability to lift sales during the online judging in February and live on-site judging on Monday, March 26. Judges awarded 36 Gold awards this year.

“It is truly an honor to recognize the industry’s top in-store marketing, promotions and POP displays during the annual Shop! Awards celebration,” said Steven A. Weiss, CAE, Shop! CEO. “For 60 years, companies in the POP industry have been showcasing their best designs in the annual OMA competition. With the globalization of retail, it is exciting to see the competition expand to include more entries from our affiliates and chapters around the world.”

Display of the Year

The prestigious Display of the Year award is presented within three divisions–temporary, semi-permanent, and permanent–based upon length of time in the store. Only gold OMA winners qualify for the consideration of winning the Display of the Year. The 2018 Display of the Year winner within each of the three divisions is:

Temporary: e3display for the Maggi Grill Display created for Marcas Nestlé S.A. de C.V.
Semi-Permanent: Pratt Display for the Schick Hydro Disposable Edge Floor Display with Robot Motion/Video created for Edgewell Personal Care
Permanent: OUTFORM Inc. for the Amazon Alexa Super Table created for Amazon

The Creative Award

The Creative Award celebrates the creativity of merchandising design and execution separately from sales results, and engages the creative community through acknowledging excellence based solely on ideation, imagination, and forward thinking. This award is presented across three divisions based upon length of time in the store: temporary, semi-permanent, and permanent. The 2018 Creative Award winners are:

Temporary: Origin LLC for the Lego Batman Movie Wow Display created for Warner Brothers Home Entertainment
Semi-Permanent: Pratt Display for the Schick Hydro Disposable Edge Floor Display with Robot Motion/Video created for Edgewell Personal Care
Permanent: Bish Creative Display for the Maestro Dobel Woven Steel Five Case Display created for Proximo Spirits

The Budget Award

An award that recognizes entries that had the greatest impact, while being conscious of a strict budget. To be eligible for the Best Use of Budget Award, entries had to achieve Gold, Silver or Bronze in their division. In the Temporary Division the entry must cost under $25, for Semi-Permanent under $50, and for Permanent under $100. The 2018 Budget Award winners are:

Temporary: WestRock for the ChapStick 7-11 86 + 10pc Free Slurpee CU created for Pfizer Consumer Healthcare
Semi-Permanent: Menasha for the Kellogg’s Loud Flavors Program created for Kellogg Co.
Permanent: Bish Creative Display for the Lifewtr New Product Introduction Display created for Pepsico

OMA Awards Judging

Entries are judged in a two-round process by teams of in-store marketing professionals representing brands, retailers, ad agencies, and producers/suppliers. Each round focuses on design, innovation, and the proven ability to lift sales. The first round is completed online by reviewing case history responses and evaluating entry responses to questions focusing on design, engineering, shopper engagement, retail experience, brand performance, and sales results. The second round is completed on the OMA Show floor during GlobalShop to validate their online scores.

OMA Awards were presented at McCormick Place in a combined ceremony honoring the Shop! Design Awards, Global Awards, and Merriman Above & Beyond Award winners. This year’s Shop!
