Seven & i Holdings (Tokyo) has unveiled a 30-page “transformation plan” that includes adding roughly 1300 of its new, large-format 7-Eleven stores in North America by early 2031. The company plans to accomplish that goal by adding 200 stores per year, with the goal of exceeding 50% coverage of the U.S. population.
Additionally, Seven & i will add 1100 restaurants to these stores for an eventual total of 2000 locations with such installations. Also, in its home market of Japan, c-store giant plans to add about 1000 stores during the same period.
Those ambitious plans have come to light just a few weeks after Canadian c-store giant Alimentation Couche-Tard called off its attempted $46 billion acquisition of 7-Eleven, saying its Japanese parent company failed to meaningfully engage in negotiations.
