Condado Tacos (Columbus, Ohio) is eyeing new markets as it looks to more than double its footprint over the next five years.
The regional chain announced a plan to open 90 to 100 new restaurants by 2026, with 12 of those locations scheduled to open next year. The new markets the brand will enter in 2023 include St. Louis; Louisville, Ky.; Knoxville, Tenn.; Greenville, S.C.; and Birmingham, Ala.
Condado Tacos opened its 39th location last month in Kalamazoo, Mich. It currently operates in 13 markets throughout the Midwest and Southeast.
The chain is known for its “build-your-own” taco concept as well as its colorful restaurant atmospheres. Its design efforts include working with local artists to hand-paint the walls of new restaurants with original murals depicting local narratives.
Condado Tacos was founded in 2014 by Joe Kahn and is currently led by CEO Chris Artinian. It’s backed by the The Beekman Group, a New York City-based private equity firm with a foothold in food retailing.
