Photo Tour: Moncler Unveils New York Flagship

Luxury outdoor apparel brand Moncler (Milan) has taken the wraps off its newest flagship store, in the General Motors Building on New York’s Fifth Avenue. The opening was part of a city-wide “New York in Moncler” retrospective honoring the brand’s defining moments in the city that took place during the just-concluded New York Fashion Week.

Moncler’s newest store consists of 23,680 square feet of space spread out over two levels that was home for three decades to an FAO Schwarz toy store until 2015; in recent years it housed a temporary store for Apple and was to house an Under Amour locale, but that never came to fruition.

In its use of this high-profile space, Moncler sought to create “a living space shaped by the ideas, culture and spirit of the city, while remaining true to the brand’s DNA,” said Remo Ruffini, Executive Chairman of Moncler S.p.A.

The store was created in collaboration with Moncler’s longtime designer, Gilles & Boissier (Paris). In their project description of the space, the partners said it is “defined by soaring volumes, sculptural architecture and a carefully considered sense of scale that reinterprets Moncler’s alpine heritage [it was founded in a French alpine village in 1952] through the contemporary architectural language of the city.”
