REI Co-op to Open 11th Store in Texas
Latest locale to be near Texas A&M in College Station
Specialty outdoor retailer REI Co-op (Seattle) has unveiled plans to open a store in College Station, Texas, this fall. The 21,700-square-foot location, less than a half mile from Texas A&M University, will offer outdoor gear and expertise for camping, cycling, running, fitness, hiking and climbing, along with a full-service bike shop.
“College Station and the surrounding region have many natural places to play, explore and relax so being outside can be part of everyday life,” said Regional Director Kristen Engels. “With incredible settings for hiking, camping, mountain biking, trail running and much more so close to the city, the co-op looks forward to being a resource when we open our 11th store in the state. We also are excited to develop partnerships with local nonprofits to support their efforts to welcome more people outside.”
The new REI will be part of a shopping plaza that will house a Crunch Fitness that’s also slated to open in the fall.
REI said its co-op membership stands at 7,000 in College Station; 32,300 in the Waco-Temple-Bryan region; and 1.44 million in Texas.
Data company ScrapeHero says REI had 187 stores in the United States as of mid-April.
