A pair of Canadian retailers have announced ongoing expansion plans that involve growing their presence in the U.S.:

  • Aritzia Inc. (Vancouver, B.C.) expects to open up to 13 new boutiques and reposition three to four others in its coming fiscal year. The luxury retailer provided that information in a news release detailing its financial results for the fourth quarter and full year ended March 3.
  • Gen Z fashion retailer Garage (Montreal) disclosed its future plans in announcing the opening of its 100th store in the United States, in Glendale, Ariz. Looking ahead, the retailer said it plans to continue focusing on expanding its network across the U.S. in 2024, though it did not specify how many stores that involves or where they will be.

In Aritzia’s case, other than one new boutique and one boutique repositioning in Canada, all its other openings are expected to be in the United States. (One boutique reposition has already opened in the first quarter.)

During its just-completed fiscal year, the retailer opened six new boutiques and repositioned three existing ones. Overall, it has 119 boutiques in North America.

As for Garage, “We are very proud to offer another best-in-class shopping experience to our consumers in Arizona,” said CEO Andrew Lutfy. “This opening not only signifies an exciting moment within Garage’s history, but is truly a testament to the growing number of advocates and loyal consumers. We’ve created such a passionate, unique and exciting culture for both employees and consumers through growing this brand.”

Garage is a unit of Groupe Dynamite Inc., which operates nearly 300 stores across the United States and Canada under the Dynamite Clothing and Garage banners.
