New York’s Flatiron district continues to add to its retail stable, with Salomon (Ogden, Utah) about to open on Fifth Avenue and Garage (Montreal) announcing plans for a new flagship just down the street that will open next year. Here’s a look at both projects:
*Fast-fashion retailer Garage (Montreal) will bring its Y2K-inspired, “off-duty” merch to a 9500-square-foot space at Fifth Avenue and 21st Street next spring, in a vacant space most recently occupied by another Canadian fashion brand, Club Monaco. The flagship (rendering below) will blend its Flatiron building’s historic bones, soaring ceilings and industrial textures with Garage’s grunge-style aesthetic, the company said in a news release. (Garage has roughly a dozen other stores in the city and its surrounding markets and says it plans new locales in Boston and Washington D.C.)
* Salomon, a seller of performance footwear, apparel and winter sports equipment, will open its fourth New York store on July 8. The 4400-square-foot space, at 141 Fifth Ave., joins the retailer’s other stores in SoHo, the Upper West Side and Brooklyn’s Williamsburg. The Flatiron location “marks a strategic effort to blend and grow Salomon’s sportstyle and performance lines within major creative centers,” the company said.
