UK’s Marks & Spencer World’s Most Trustworthy Retailer: Survey
Two American companies – Amazon and Chewy – make the category’s top 10

Marks & Spencer, the venerable London department store (founded 1864), tops the retail category in the “World’s Most Trustworthy Companies” roster of 1000 businesses compiled by Newsweek and data research firm Statista.
To create this list, the partners surveyed more than 70,000 participants, gathering 269,000 evaluations of companies that people trust as a customer, as an investor and as an employee. Consumers evaluated companies on statements such as, “I trust in this company to treat me fairly as its customer,” “I trust that this company is competently led” and “I believe this company treats its employees fairly.”
Here are the top 10 retailers on the roster:
- M&S, department store, UK
- John Lewis Partnership, department stores, supermarkets, UK
- Canadian Tire Corp., department stores, Canada
- Shinsegae, department stores, South Korea

- Woolworths Group, department stores, supermarkets, Australia
- Chewy, online pet retailer, USA

- Komputronik, home appliance retailer, Poland

“We hope you find our rankings helpful and informative as you shop, invest and look for a new job,” Newsweek Global Editor in Chief Nancy Cooper wrote in the introduction to the survey’s results.
