Cole Haan (Greenland, N.H.) has opened its 600th store globally, at Boston’s Prudential Center in the city’s Back Bay. The milestone “builds on the brand’s longstanding connection to New England where the company has had a presence for decades—from its former headquarters in Yarmouth, Maine, to its current headquarters in nearby Greenland, N.H.,” the company noted in a news release.
“Reaching 600 stores reflects how far Cole Haan has come and the opportunity we see ahead,” said CEO Jack Boys. “As we grow across categories and markets, our stores and global partners help us build lasting relationships with existing and new customers.
Cole Haan previously operated a standalone location on Newbury Street, but it shuttered in 2021, reports What Now Boston. The new location, formerly occupied by Kate Spade, also reflects Cole Haan’s evolution in how presents its collections and welcomes customers, the retailer noted. “Art and finishing touches nod to New York and its place in the brand’s history, while curved lines, archways, and subtle lighting create a warm, inviting space that balances masculine and feminine elements,” the release notes. “The setting encourages customers to explore the range of the collection, from sneakers and boots to oxfords and loafers, alongside handbags, accessories, and outerwear.”
Other recent store openings reflect the brand’s global aspirations: in the U.S., Cole Haan has added locations in New York’s Flatiron District and Disney Springs Town Center in Florida; while international additions include stores in Shanghai, China; Hong Kong; Osaka, Japan; Mexico City, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; and Cairo, Egypt.
Founded in Chicago in 1928, Cole Haan has been a unit of private equity firm Apax Partners since 2013, when it was bought from Nike Inc. for $570 million in cash in 2013.
