This will be a busy couple of days on Long Island’s retail scene, as it will be the site of three store openings today and tomorrow (Oct. 20-21). First up, Uniqlo (Tokyo) will open a pair of stores in the market, and the following day, fitness brand TYR Sports (Huntington Beach, Calif.) will take the wraps off its first-ever physical space there.
Uniqlo’s new stores are an 8780-square-foot store at Walt Whitman Shops in Huntington Station, N.Y., and a 9700-square-foot store at the Green Acres Mall in Valley Stream, reports Long Island Business News.
“We are incredibly excited to open two new stores in Long Island and expand our presence in New York, a place we have called home since 2006,” Uniqlo USA CEO Yoshihide Shindo said in a company statement. “Our aim is to help make everyday life better through high-quality, essential clothing that is designed for anyone, anywhere, and we look forward to serving even more of the Long Island community at Walt Whitman Shops and Green Acres on October 20.”
Uniqlo is a unit of Fast Retailing Co. Ltd., with more than 50 stores in the U.S. and more than 2400 stores worldwide, including Japan, Asia, Europe and North America.
Prior to the two new stores that have just opened, Uniqlo’s lone location on the island was at Roosevelt Field in Garden City.
The latter shopping complex is the site of the first TYR Sport brick-and-mortar retail location. That 2200-square-foot store is designed to be a one-stop destination for fitness enthusiasts and competitive swimmers alike, its backers say.

Venturing into brick-and-mortar retail showcases our commitment to broaden the TYR community, and we are eager to further this growth with another upcoming location set to open at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, Calif., in November.”
