Los Angeles Apparel (Los Angeles) will launch its first New York store at KPG Funds’ 480 Broadway, report a variety of news sources, including the New York Post. The 24,687 square-foot space in SoHo once housed a TopShop.
KPG Co-Founder and CEO Greg Kraut told the Post, “This lease reflects everything we believe in – supporting mission-driven brands that contribute to the cultural and economic fabric of our cities.” (Los Angeles Apparel describes its products as “ethically driven.” They are manufactured in a south-central LA factory that’s also home to the brand’s only other store.)
Los Angeles Apparel is the brainchild of Dov Charney, who also founded American Apparel and was later terminated by its board after facing allegations of sexual misconduct with models and employees. American Apparel, which once had 250 stores, is still around, but only as an online store, Glam reports.
Los Angeles Apparel has also come under fire in the past: In 2020, Los Angeles public health officials shut down the brand’s plant after 300 workers were infected with Covid and four workers passed away.
