Korean beauty (K-beauty) brand Olive Young opened its new Seoul store in the city’s Gwangjang Market, one of South Korea’s oldest markets and known for its food, textiles and vintage merchandise.
Designed by South Korean studio XSXL, the store’s interior celebrates the history of Gwangjang Market, including the red tiles and terrazzo, which are also seen in the market. The counters feature tiles inspired by bojagi wrapping, a traditional Korean textile craft. Materials inspired by the 1960s and 70s, such as light oak, red pine, stained glass and vintage wallpaper, are translated into Olive Young’s contemporary brand aesthetic, creating a space that is both retro and modern.
