Primark (Dublin, Ireland) has unveiled plans for two added stores in the Washington, D.C., market and set an opening date of May 8 for its long-awaited flagship in New York’s Herald Square.

In the DC area – aka the DMV – the department store chain will open its second store in Maryland at the Mall at Prince George’s in Hyattsville on May 14 and has signed a lease for its third store in Virginia at Fashion Centre at Pentagon City in Arlington. (The chain’s other Maryland store is in Hanover, while its existing Virginia stores are in Woodbridge and McLean.)

“We’ve seen the demand for quality fashion that doesn’t break the bank at our stores in Maryland and Virginia, and we’re thrilled to reach more area shoppers than ever before with our opening in Hyattsville this May and with the intent to open in Arlington soon thereafter,” said Kevin Tulip, President of Primark US, which will have 42 stores with the openings of the two DMV locales. “Both just minutes from the nation’s capital, we’re also excited to provide those in D.C. with even closer proximity to our amazing quality and prices.”

The opening at Mall at Prince George’s will come on the heels of Primark’s newest flagship store opening at Herald Square in New York, which will take place May 8 in a high-profile, 54,000-square-foot space at 150 W. 34th St. formerly occupied by Old Navy. (In addition, the retailer has just opened its fifth store in Texas, at North East Mall in Hurst, which is a suburb of Fort Worth.)

Founded in Ireland in 1969, Primark today has 480-plus stores across 19 countries in Europe, the U.S. and the Middle East.
