Store Openings: A Trio of Chains Detail Expansions

Mix includes sporting goods, footwear/accessories and apparel/home goods retailers.

* Academy Sports + Outdoors (Katy, Texas) is opening 11 new stores in its current quarter. The brand’s latest locations are in:

• Fayetteville and Statesboro, Georgia
• St. Clairsville, Ohio
• McAlester, Okla.
• Millington, Tenn.
• Celina, Fairview, Granbury, Kerrville and Lacy Lakeview, Texas
• Roanoke, Va.

Looking ahead, Academy plans to open another dozen or so outlets this year. In total, it has about 340 stores across 21 states.

* Joseph (Memphis) has opened its third boutique, in the Highland Village shopping complex in Jackson, Miss. The 96-year-old chain’s other stores are on Magazine Street in New Orleans and in the Laurelwood Shopping Center in Memphis.

* Muji (Tokyo/US HQ: New York) is adding to its U.S. presence, adding four locations through a partnership with mall operator Simon, report a variety of news sources, including Retail TouchPoints. The new stores, which will give the chain 17 locations in the U.S., are slated for the following Simon properties:

• The Shops at Chestnut Hill, Chestnut Hill, Mass. (opening this fall).
• The Westchester, White Plains, N.Y. (opening this fall).
• Newport Centre, Jersey City, N.J.
• Roosevelt Field, Garden City, N.Y.

Opening dates for the latter two locations haven’t been announced. The stores sell apparel, home goods, kitchenware, stationery, travel essentials and other lifestyle products. Overall, the brand has nearly 1500 stores, roughly half of which are in its home country of Japan.
