Target (Minneapolis) has announced its first Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer, according to a company statement. Chandhu Nair has been appointed to the newly created role and was previously the Senior VP of Stores, Data, AI and Innovation of Lowe’s. He also previously held roles at Staples and The Gap.

The company also announced Purvi Shah as its Senior VP of User Experience on Tuesday.

In a statement, Nair says, “The most meaningful AI stores won’t be about what happens in a lab. They’ll be about what happens on the front line – how we make shopping easier for a guest, give a team member a better tool, make a business decision with more confidence or bring a new idea to market faster.”

Target has recently begun investing more in generative AI, including its own tool called Target Trend Brain, which reportedly helps the retailer identify style, color and material trends.
