Record Spending Expected for Valentine’s Day: NRF
Spending on significant others anticipated to increase this Valentine’s Day, including purchases of jewelry and clothing
Valentine’s Day spending on significant others is expected to hit a record $14.2 billion this year, according to an annual survey by the National Retail Federation (NRF). Total Valentine’s Day spending is expected to remain steady at $25.8 billion, on par with 2023’s spending.
“With consumers prioritizing their spouse or significant other this year, retailers expect to see a shift in spending for certain gifting categories,” NRF President and CEO Matthew Shay said in a press release about the survey.
Candy, greeting cards and flowers are predicted to be the top gifts purchased. Clothing and jewelry purchases are also expected to hit new records, with jewelry sales at $6.4 billion and clothing sales at $3 billion.
