Arkansas Jewelry Store to Close After 109 Years in Business

Newton’s Jewelers in Fort Smith, AR, is closing after 109 years in business.

The Newton family announced its retirement.

“The number one thing is that we’ve always worked our hardest to make sure our customers and community know how much we truly appreciate them,” Kelly Newton said. “We’ve been so wonderfully blessed – by our customers, by our community – it’s difficult to even express how much they really mean to us. We’ve served multiple generations of families and gotten to know them well. Many of them have become our friends and we deeply cherish that.”

The downtown store, founded by George H. Newton in 1914, is planning a closing sale for April 6.

“We’re opening the vaults and offering unique pieces even our loyal customers have never seen,” Newton said. “I want everything sold quickly, so we are putting our best discounts out there.”
