Here’s a case-in-point follow-up to a recent Shop! headline detailing how three major markets in Texas – Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth and House – were among the few enjoying a vibrant retail-construction market: Fate, a fast-growing town about 35 miles northeast of downtown Dallas adjacent to Interstate 30, recently landed two-high-profile national chains: Kroger and Target.
So reports The Dallas Morning News, which notes that Target’s plans were detailed in a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Registration showing work on the project is set to begin in the first quarter of next year and finish by February 2028, while a similar filing by Kroger showed it further along in the process, with a completion expected next May.
Fate’s draw, the newspaper notes, is a major population bump: In July 2025, its residential count hit 29,000, up more than 60% from April 2020, according to the U.S. census. That old adage – retail follows rooftops – still holds true, despite all the changes in the sector.
One final note: According to Fate’s website, its unique name is derived from the nickname of one of two prominent residents, either William Lafayette Brown or GW Lafayette Peyton, who both lived in the area during the 1860s.
