Lights Out at 800-Plus Stores in Coming Year
Largest announced closures by Bed Bath & Beyond and Tuesday Morning
At least 800 stores are set to close during the year across the U.S., concludes a recent tally of announcements by major retailers by Business Insider. The reasons for such closures range from retailers navigating bankruptcy proceedings to a search for cost cuts.
Here are the closings:
* Bed Bath & Beyond (Union N.J.): 416 stores
* Tuesday Morning (Dallas): 265 stores
* Gap and Banana Republic (San Francisco): up to 74 stores
* Party City (Woodcliff Lake, N.J.): 22 stores.

* Big Lots (Columbus, Ohio): 7 stores
* Macy’s (New York): 4 stores
* The RealReal (San Francisco): 6 stores
* JCPenney (Plano, Texas): 2 stores
* Amazon (Seattle) Unspecified number of stores
AdvertisementSince BI published its list, VMSD has reported and Bath & Body Works (Columbus, Ohio) plans to close about 50 mall-based stores (and open 90 off-mall locales) this year, and that Dillard’s (Little Rock, Ark. ) plans to shutter three stores in its first quarter of this year (and add one new one).
