Smyth Jewelers plans to open its fourth Maryland showroom in Bel Air this fall, joining the retailer’s signature store in Timonium and locations in Annapolis and Ellicott City. Commercial real estate firm TD&A announced the sublease deal for the new location, at 1201 E. Churchville Road.

The 12,500-square-foot, two-story freestanding building, formerly a Walgreens, will be converted into a full jewelry showroom through an estimated $650,000 renovation, expected to create 12 to 15 local jobs. The opening date depends partly on the arrival of custom showcase displays built for the space.

For Smyth’s Chief Financial Officer Bob Yanega, the move is personal as much as strategic. “We love the Bel Air community and have watched it grow for years,” he said.

Smyth Jewelers traces its roots to 1914, when it was founded in Baltimore. TD&A’s Steven Cornblatt and Coleman Tirone represented Smyth in the transaction, while Geoff Mackler and Alex Shiel of H&R Retail represented Walgreens.
