Variety Wholesalers (Henderson, N.C.), announced the first wave of Big Lots! stores it bought out of bankruptcy earlier this year will start reopening on April 10, with nine locales across six states. After that, the retailer says it will reopen the other 210 Big Lots! stores it acquired in three more waves over the next two months.

Variety Wholesalers describes itself as “a discount retailer known for its treasure hunt shopping experience, closeouts and unbeatable bargains.” Operating more than 400 stores across 18 states, its retail brands also include Roses Discount Stores, Roses Express and Maxway.

“We’re thrilled to bring the Big Lots! brand back to life by offering more deals than ever, lots of famous brands and a new apparel department for the entire family,” said Lisa Seigies, President and CEO of Variety Wholesalers.

Von Maur Department Stores (Davenport, Iowa) has opened its newest location, at West Acres Mall in Fargo. The 90,000-square-foot locale is the company’s first department store in North Dakota and its 39th overall.

“Sharing similar Midwestern roots, we appreciate the sense of community and culture that defines Fargo and trust that our wide selection of premium brands and exceptional service will appeal to shoppers across the region,” said Jim von Maur, the retailer’s President and fourth-generation leader.

This is Von Maur’s second investment at West Acres Mall; in 2018, Von Maur opened one of its Dry Goods stores there, which offers contemporary women’s apparel and accessories.
