In Freeport, Maine, a coastal town surrounded by the natural beauty of New England, stands the Freeport Experience – L.L.Bean’s transformation of its flagship store that was years in the making and will finally open its doors on Sept. 18. The Freeport Experience is more than a store; it’s an attraction in itself.
The design was not just a remodel, instead a campus-scale, customer-centric journey that honors the brand’s legacy while creating space for its future. With inspiration drawn from hospitality and placemaking, the Freeport Experience will offer visitors not just L.L.Bean’s retail selection, but also an indoor playground for children, food vendors, event areas and community space.
But how was such a massive undertaking accomplished? You can hear about it yourself from Kathryn Wise, Director of Design and Construction at L.L.Bean, this Oct. 7 at the International Retail Design Conference (IRDC) in Las Vegas.
Kathryn’s session will delve into all the details about designing the Freeport Experience and how to translate heritage into modern, experiential storytelling.
