Karl Lagerfeld (Amsterdam) has unveiled an updated store concept at its decade-old locale on London’s Regent Street, Women’s Wear Daily reports. Dubbed “Future Legacy,” the 3300-square-foot space prominently features images and mementos of the late German designer. (Lagerfeld died in 2019).
Some specific elements within the space include a silvery likeness of Lagerfeld over the staircase; a mirrored wall with a red button that, when pushed, elicits one of Lagerfeld’s bon mots (“I am a total improvisation” and “Change is the healthiest way to survive”); bobble-headed dolls; and his distinctive sketches, runway looks and portraits all pinned behind glass in a collage.
The store’s materials palette includes engineered stone, cement and plaster to polished chrome, brushed steel, corrugated steel and upcycled acrylics. High-tech elements include floor-to-ceiling digital screens showing the brand’s latest campaigns, 3D-printed mannequins made of recycled plastic and a silvery Ferris wheel-like contraption that displays handbags in the stairwell leading to the lower-ground level.
“It’s about creating a space where people can truly engage with the brand, feel inspired and walk away with an experience that resonates on a deeper level,” Pier Paolo Righi, the brand’s CEO, told WWD.
Lagerfeld operates more than 250 stores globally and the new concept “will be implemented in the new freestanding stores and adapted for renovation for each relevant strategic location,” Righi told WWD, noting the next “Future Legacy” store is slated to open in early 2025 at an as-yet undisclosed locale.
