Philadelphia Home Depot Store Looks to Unionize
The full unionization of a store would be a first for the Atlanta, Ga.-based home improvement giant.

A Home Depot (Atlanta) store in Northeast Philadelphia, located at 4640 Roosevelt Blvd., may become the first store by the home improvement retailer to unionize. About 103 of the store’s 274 employees have signed a petition for union representation, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.
A store employee named Vincent Quiles delivered the petition to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) last Tuesday. The main concerns, Quiles says, are related to store staffing, compensation, upper management and working conditions. Quiles also told The Inquirer that he delivered the petition after a manager refused to accept it at the store.
Home Depot spokesperson Sara Gorman said in an email, “We look forward to talking to our associates about their concerns … While we will of course work through the NLRB process, we do not believe unionization is the best solution for our associates.”
In 2019, a group of 60 Home Depot drivers in San Diego, Calif., successfully unionized with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. The drivers organized citing a lack of consistency regarding seniority, vacation, designated routes and extra work.
