Sector Update: Warehouse Clubs
PriceSmart, BJ’s set store openings

Two participants in the warehouse-club sector have announced store openings:
• PriceSmart (San Diego), which operates in Latin America and the Caribbean, plans to open new warehouse clubs in Cartago, Costa Rica, in spring 2025 (its ninth locale in that country) and one in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, in the summer (its seventh one there). Overall, those openings will give the company a total of 56 clubs.
And
• BJ’s Wholesale Club (Marlborough, Mass.) will open a locale in Maryville, Tenn., on Jan. 17, its fourth in the state. The company currently operates 248 clubs and 183 BJ’s Gas locations in 20 states.
Both companies use similar operating models, offering members-only admission to large-scale stores that offer wide merchandise selections and volume deals on food offerings.
