Pure Hockey has spent the past several years skating after one main goal: using a combination of organic expansion and strategic acquisitions to “become the nation’s leading destination for hockey equipment, apparel and accessories.” To do so, Holliston, Mass.-based Pure Hockey has been snatching up smaller, regional businesses with fervent followers all their own.
That philosophy is reflected in PH’s latest acquisition: Perani’s Hockey World (Flint, Mich.), which operates 22 stores across the Midwest. Founded 50 years ago, the family-owned-and-operated Perani is “a business with a remarkable legacy rooted in exceptional service, strong community connections and a genuine passion for the game,” said Power House CEO David Nectow. “Their presence across the Midwest makes this an especially meaningful addition as we continue to grow in key markets. We look forward to building on that foundation with our expanded assortment, services, and resources.”
The Perani buy joins six other smaller-scale hockey shops to join the Power House fold over the last three years. Those acquired businesses are: the Bar Down Hockey Shop in Overland, Kan.; Hockey Headquarters in Sioux Falls, S.D.; Off The Bench in Omaha, Neb.; JT’s Slap Shot in Urbandale, Iowa; Behind the Mask in Scottsdale, Ariz.; and North Georgia Hockey in Roswell, Ga. (All those acquisitions have transitioned to the Pure Hockey banner.)
In addition to acquisitions, the chain has been growing organically over that same period, opening eight new Power Hockey stores in such locations as Columbus, Ohio; Laguna Hills, Calif.; Las Vegas; Seattle; Springfield, Va.; and Tukwila, Wash.
