Five Below (Philadelphia) plans to open 150 new stores in its current fiscal year. The chain, which describes itself as “THE destination for the KID and the KID in all of us,” unveiled that number in its latest quarterly financial report for the period ended May 2.

In that quarter, Five Below said its net sales hit nearly $1.3 billion, a whopping 32.5% increase from a year earlier. While some of that jump is attributable to the chain’s ongoing opening of new stores, its comparable sales – that is, for those locales open at least a year – increased by 22.7%.

“Our continued focus on compelling newness at amazing value and great store execution are at the heart of our operating flywheel,” CEO Winnie Park said in the quarterly statement. “We successfully amplified social media trends and drove outsized traffic through coordinated merchandising and marketing efforts.”

At the start of its latest quarter, the seller of low-cost t-shirts, toys, tech gadgets, candy and other items trending online had 1970 stores in 46 states.
